About TFUMC Youth
In Matthew 7: 24-29, Jesus makes it clear that everyone will experience "storms" in life, but He also says that not everyone will come through those storms unscathed. The student ministries of Thomasville First United Methodist Church seek to direct students to the one true FOUNDATION of life that will stand the test of time - a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
The teenage years are typically anything but steady! Our goal is to build relationships with students in grades 7 - 12 and through those relationships demonstrate the fullness of life available in the center of God's will. We believe that teenagers make decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. Decisions made to follow after God as a young person can bring truth and meaning to a person's life that will lead to an adult life of world changing.
To sum it up we want to SHARE CHRIST in a fresh and relevant way, BUILD DISCIPLES who seek after God and walk in His ways, and then SEND MINISTERS into the world for the sole purpose of changing it and making it better.

Sr. High Mission Trip (Current 8th graders - current 12th graders)
July 4-12, 2014
Our Mission Philosophy
We believe that Jesus calls every believer to be a missionary regardless of age. Mission trips are an important for our students in 3 ways:
1) Students need to be exposed to God's bigger picture! It is easy to get caught up in your own story and surroundings. Mission experiences help students see that God is at work everywhere and they can be a part of what He is doing.
2) Students need to be taken out of their comfort zones. Shot-term mission experiences away from home expose the falicy that we need technology, cosmetics, comfortable beds, hot showers, and nice clothes to be happy. A week without these extravagancies show students that there is more to life than possesions.
3) People are in need! Students need to see and be awakened to the reality of poverty even in our own backyard.
We want to expose our students to a wide range of mission experiences, so we rotate the focus are of our mission trips through rural, urban, and foreign locations. As a student continues to "plug in" here at TFUMC they will experience a different trip every summer. PLEASE NOTE - money should never be a barrier to a student's participation! We will do some fundraising prior to this trip to cover the cost of scholarships. When you register online you can select that you may need financial assistance. Please don't let pride stand in the way of one of the most important trips in the life of your student!
Reach Workcamps puts on a wonderful Summer camp experience. This year, we get the opportunity to serve a rural community with more than our hearts, as we help repair homes for those who don't have the financial liberty to do it themselves, with our hands. Scioto, Ohio is our destination. We will be partnering with over 400 students from multiple churches located all over the U.S. to show the love of Jesus!
