Rwanda Initiative

Thomasville First United Methodist Church has been involved in Rwanda, Africa since Christmas 2007 when we raised funds through Advent Revolution to build our first four homes for orphans.

Since then, we have completed a total of eight homes for orphans and drilled a deep-water well at Star School, put a new roof on the church of the Church of the Blessed Mango Tree, and provided scholarships so that many of the children in our eight homes could finish their education.  Every summer since 2008 we have sent mission teams to Rwanda where we serve our Rwandan brothers and sisters and build relationships with the children in our homes.  Our goal is to move from merely emergency relief to helping our students develop self-sufficiency and eventually serve their neighbors in the name of Christ.  Today many friendships are developing between TFUMC members and our brothers and sisters in Rwanda, including several children who have TFUMC members as their sponsors to help them finish school.  To accomplish our mission we have partnered with World Help and the Anglican Church of Rwanda. Together we have focused in three main areas: The Village of Hope, Star School, and the Church of the Blessed Mango Tree.
