Backpack Buddies
First United Methodist Church has launched the Backpack Buddies Program for Thomasville’s underprivileged children. The Backpack Buddies provides nutritional meals and snacks to youth whose primary source of food is the school cafeteria. By providing a backpack with food items to help sustain them until returning to school for a meal, their nutritional, mental and over all well-being needs are met. With this program, we hope to reach children throughout the community and establish an effective outreach program to enrich the lives of children in need.
Items sent home include tuna, lunch bucket (pasta), cereal bars, raisins, sleeves of crackers, fruit cups, peanut butter, peanut butter crackers, cereal bowl, juice, Vienna sausages, spaghetti and meatballs, pudding cups and individual snack cakes. This program is dependent entirely on the generosity of the community. In order to sustain and grow this effort, we need you. Please help by donating any of the above items or by making a monetary donation. Containers must have pop-top lids, allowing children easy access. As many items as possible are purchased at Second Harvest in order to make the most use of each dollar. Please encourage support from friends and family, including children. This program is also an excellent opportunity for the youth of today to experience the rewards of giving and helping others. For questions or further information please contact Carson Parker or Paula Smith.
