Thomasville First United Methodist Church

First Time Visitors

Welcome:

Welcome to Thomasville First United Methodist Church!  We hope that the information you'll find on this web page will be the first step of turning a "virtual visit" into a "real" visit to the church.  We want to do everything we can to make your worship experience at TFUMC a meaningful one.

All of us know that it can be difficult to go somewhere new.  We feel uncomfortable when we don't know exactly where we're supposed to be or how to get where we'd like to go.    The purpose of this part of the web page is to answer questions that you may have, so that when you come to the church for the first time, you'll feel at home.  Below are some questions that our guests often ask.  If you have a question that isn't answered below, please email me at mhuling@tfumc.com.  If I don't know the answer, I probably know someone who does!

If you worship with us, please introduce yourself to me as I always love meeting and chatting with our visitors.  I look forward to meeting you.

Blessings,

Mike

Sr. Minister

Frequently asked questions about Sunday morning:

The Church is in downtown Thomasville, Georgia.  It is on the town's main street (425 North Broad Street) and sits in a block that is bordered by Monroe, Madison and Clay Streets.  If you're not familiar with Thomasville, MapQuest can help you find us: http://www.mapquest.com/.   You can also find directions on our web page by clicking here:

The parking spaces on Broad Street in front of the church will all have signs that say "Courtesy Parking".  You are welcome to use these spaces if you have difficulty walking, or have special circumstances that require you to park as close as possible to the church.

There are two parking lots on opposite corners of Clay and Broad Streets.  You are welcome to use either of these lots.  There is also a parking lot on Madison Street.  If you are attending the Contemporary Worship Service, the Madison Street lot is the closest place to park.  If you'll be worshipping in the Traditional Worship Service, the spaces in front of the Sanctuary and the lots at Clay and Broad would be the closest.

There are two worship services every Sunday morning.  The Contemporary Worship Service is at 8:45 a.m.  It meets in the Fellowship Building, which is located on the back of the church's campus.  Madison Street is the closest street to the entrance of that building.

The Traditional Worship Service begins at 10:55 a.m.  The service is held in the Sanctuary, which faces North Broad Street.

We believe that the most important thing about coming to worship is your heart, but we also recognize that people want to feel comfortable in their surroundings.  In the Contemporary Service you will see a variety of dress, from shorts and jeans and  t-shirts, to more traditional "church dress".  At the 11:00 service people generally dress more traditionally for a Sunday service - dresses, pant suits, neckties and/or jackets, suits.  Again, the most important thing is a heart for worship, so please do not let "dress" be an issue that keeps you away from church.

We have tried to make our 11:00 bulletin as "user friendly" as possible.  For example, if the congregation will be reciting a creed together, that creed will be printed in your bulletin.  If we are singing a response, the page number of the response will be printed.  At the 8:45 service, the words of all songs and/or responses will be on the two screens in the Fellowship Building.  You will never be called upon or singled-out as a visitor.

All children are welcome in worship, but our experience has been that young children are more comfortable in the care of our fine Nursery.  Children under the age of 4 are welcome in the nursery.  During each worship service, children age 4 through first grade will be invited to go to Children's Church.  They will have adult escorts and you may pick them up at the end of the worship service.  At the 11:00 service you will find children's "quiet bags" just outside of the main doors.

Yes, we take the safety of your children very seriously, and we have adopted a very detailed "Safe Sanctuaries" policy.  Everyone who works with children or youth in this church has submitted to a criminal background check.  Please ask a Staff member for a copy of the Safe Sanctuaries policy.

There is a list of Sunday School classes and of other small groups on this web page.  Please go to the "Connect" tab and you will find information about our educational ministries.

We have classes for all ages of children.  Click "Ministries" on this web page and explore the children's areas.

Okay, now that we've answered some questions about Sunday mornings, let's look at some other questions you might have about the church:

Simply put, get involved.  Come to church night supper on Wednesday, join a small group or Sunday School class, attend a membership class, volunteer for a ministry, participate in a study.  Any Staff member will be glad to help you get involved without becoming overwhelmed.

Reservations are required for supper on Wednesday evening.  Please call the church office at 226 0840, or email bwaits@tfumc.com

Following the supper our children go to "ALLPLAY", the youth gather for their own time of study and worship, and the adults either enjoy a program in the Fellowship Hall, or participate in a class offered .

We ask everyone who wishes to join this church to attend a membership class.  We offer those classes on a Sunday morning every other month.  You will hear the dates announced in church or can read those dates in your bulletin.  You may also call the church office for more information.

I hope that I have answered some of the questions you may have.  Please feel free to call the church office if you have other questions.  We look forward to meeting you!
